The Strehla Factory, started in 1828 and took its name from the town in Saxony, Germany where it began. After World War II the area became East Germany and was under Communist rule from the 1950s to the 1980s. Most Strehla pieces (including our vase) are marked with an ink stamped ‘Strehla’ and have a model number on the base. These East German vases are harder to find than West Germany ones. The company folded in 1989 after the wall between East and West came down.
