Here at Lovely's Vintage Emporium we avidly watched the first episode of This Old Thing, hosted by Dawn O'Porter last week. It is Channel 4's new primetime TV show about vintage fashion. The next episode (two of six) is this Wednesday 2nd July at 8pm.
We were featured on This Old Thing (see our necklace below) which obviously delighted us! For more of our vintage necklaces click here: VINTAGE NECKLACES
But we couldn't help but also notice that the 'upcycling' section of the show ie the cutting up/dyeing/altering of vintage items seems to have raised a debate amongst vintage lovers. Is it ever acceptable to chop the bottom off a vintage dress, dye it a different colour, alter the length of the arms etc?
Picture below is one of the 'before and after' upcycling projects on This Old Thing.
Do let us know your views on altering vintage pieces here on this blog, in the comment section, or over on our Twitter account or Facebook page.
We were also interviewed by The Daily Telegraph newspaper at the weekend - you can read some of the feature below or by clicking the link here to the story in the newspaper. Although we do think that writer Victoria Lambert does look fabulous in her upcycled kaftan!
We love to hear from you so please do let us know where you stand on the 'upcycling' of vintage debate.
