Diamond in a Rhinestone World: The Costumes of Dolly Parton
The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, USA has an exhibition opening on February 5th 2019 called Diamond in a Rhinestone World: The Costumes of Dolly Parton and is the first one dedicated to Dolly Parton's costumes to be staged outside of Dollywood (her theme park). We are saving up now for our flights.
Dolly Parton: "I probably have thousands of dresses from over the years. I had a hard time letting go of some of my favorites, but I’m excited for them to be included in this exhibit. I can't wait to see them on display at the GRAMMY Museum!"
Costumes are ones that Dolly Parton has worn for stage performances, music videos, and photo shoots. Pieces include the pink dress she wore for the cover of her 2008 record Backwoods Barbie, outfits from Live in London 2009 and the black-and-white mini skirt she wore to the recent premiere of the film Dumplin.
Michael Sticka from Grammy Museum said: “Displaying these extraordinary costumes and pieces will take you through a career that has spanned decades of someone who is beloved as both a groundbreaking artist and a trendsetting pioneer. We are extremely grateful to Dolly for letting us feature some of the most memorable and innovative outfits in music history.”
The Grammy Foundation is also honouring Dolly: It is naming her 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year at a gala on February 8th in celebration of her philanthropic work.
